Looking Forward to Equal Pay - Margaret Downie
There have been several recent developments in UK equal pay law, both in the area of gaining information about pay grades through a Freedom of Information request and, also, in relation to the consequences of losing an equal pay claim at Tribunal. On 1 October 2014, the Equality Act 2010 (Equal Pay Audits) Regulations 2014 came into force. These Regulations provide that where an employer loses an equal pay claim the tribunal shall (unless one of four exemptions applies) make an order for a pay audit to be carried out by that employer. These changes, together with growing attention of the issue at the EU level, means that organisations should revisit their equal pay policies and procedures.
