Its international reach, built upon its policy of networking and exchanges of students, artists, designers, exhibitions and workshops, contributes to the School's dynamism. Saint-Etienne is a city of 185,000 inhabitants, around 25,000 of which are students. In 2010, Saint-Etienne became the first French City (and the second in Europe) to join the UNESCO Creative Cities network as a City of Design.
