Admissions Information for Staff
Admissions Policies and Procedures
Other University Policies which are relevant to admissions are as follows:
Supporting Professionalism in Admissions (SPA)
The Supporting Professionalism in Admissions Programme was established in mid 2006 to support the development of fair admissions, enhance professionalism, share good practice and to provide advice to admissions decision makers and other stakeholders.
The SPA website provides information, expertise, support and guidance for all those involved in admissions. There are currently statements on good practice for Admission Policies, Feedback to Applicants and Interview. The section on National Developments in admissions is also very informative.
The Delivery Partnership
The Delivery Partnership is a UK-wide, higher education sector-led, partnership of different education stakeholders. It was established in autumn 2006 to implement reforms to the higher education applications process following the Government's response to the DfES-led Consultation on Improving the Higher Education Applications Process in May 2006. The first reform recommended by the Delivery Partnership was the reduction of the number of choices (applications) an applicant can submit in the UCAS system from 6 to 5.
They are currently reviewing further the UCAS system, specifically Art and Design applications and changes to confirmation and clearing procedures.
General Guidance
Age Discrimination
The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 came into force on 1 October 2006. The Regulations apply to employment and vocational training, and government guidance indicates that, for the sake of simplicity and uniformity, they have been designed to cover all courses at FE and HE institutions. The Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) has produced some useful guidance relating to age and student issues, which has been prepared on behalf of the Higher Education sector. This guidance can be accessed at the undernoted link and may prove useful for staff involved in making Admissions decisions, particularly in respect of minimum and maximum ages on entry:
