As a distance learning student you can request books be sent to you by post provided your address is in the United Kingdom, including the Isle of Man, Channel Islands or British Forces addresses overseas.

We regret that we cannot send books to other locations.

How can I request a postal loan?

Just follow these steps:

  • Search the library catalogue to make sure the item is in stock.
  • Copy the details into the Postal Loan Request Form below, using a separate form for each request.
  • Post, e-mail or fax the postal loan form to us.

Postal Loan Request Form (DOC 135KB)

How many items can I request?

You can borrow 15 books at any one time. Reference books, reference journals and specialised collections are unavailable for loan.

How will I receive my books?

Postal loans are sent by recorded delivery.  Please ensure that you enter a delivery address where a signature can be obtained.

If the material you have requested is out on loan, we will recall a copy for you and it will be posted out when it becomes available.

Please note that if, instead of using Postal Loan Forms to request items, you choose to place a hold on a book on the library catalogue we will assume that you will pick up that book in person from the library.

How long can I keep my books?

The standard loan period for most items is 56 days. However, the loan period may be reduced if the item is in heavy demand.

Are books subject to recall?

Yes. Books in heavy demand may be recalled early and you will be notified by email of the new due date.  If recalled books are returned late, you will be fined. More information on our fines can be found on our Policies page.

Can I renew my books?

Books may be renewed unless required by another reader. Go online to the Library Catalogue, select ‘My Account’, and log in using your student number and password. If you forget to renew your library items then as long as your account is in good standing, we’ll do it for you on the day before they’re due back and send you an email reminder to let you know how long you can keep them for.
