Professor Peter Reid, Head of the Department of Information Management at Aberdeen Business School has been announced as President of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland (CILIPS) for 2012.
CILIPS is the professional body representing librarians and information professionals affiliated with CILIP the UK-wide parent organisation. It works closely with the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC), the advisory body for Scottish ministers on library and information matters, sharing staffing and office accommodation as well as cooperating on many joint projects.
Peter, who served as Vice President during 2011, was formally appointed as President at a meeting held in the Scottish Parliament on 27th January. He accepted the chain of office from outgoing President, Alan Reid, who until his retirement was Libraries Manager at Midlothian Council.
Dr Audrey Sutton, Head of Community and Cultural Service at North Ayrshire Council and who herself undertook her PhD at Robert Gordon University was also installed as Vice President of CILIP at the same ceremony.
Peter has chosen Enriching Society as his presidential theme for the year and this will form the focus for the programme of the CILIPS annual conference to be held in Dundee in June.
Commenting on his new appointment, Professor Reid said: "I am thrilled an honoured to become President of CILIPS and am really looking forward to being an ambassador for libraries over the coming year and being able to highlight the contribution they make to enriching society".
