Gray’s Degree Show 2010 marks 125 years of the art school
Friday, 30 April, 2010Final year students at Robert Gordon University's Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen are preparing for the School's annual Degree Show which has taken place in one form or another for 125 years! For the seventh year running, it is being sponsored by BP.
This year's talent showcase will be launched on Friday 18 June, providing an ideal opportunity for many thousands of visitors both to see emerging talent and engage in discussion about the ideas behind the work. Over the years Gray's Degree Show has become a firm favourite with the Aberdeen public, giving people the opportunity to see a range of final year undergraduate projects, spanning fashion and textiles, 3D and product design, graphics, digital media, visual communication, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and electronic media. For the first year we will also see a selection of work from the new Commercial Photography course.
Libby Curtis, Acting Head of Gray's School of Art said, "This is a very special year for us in terms of celebrating the rich history of the School. Looking to the future, the professional expertise our teaching staff, who are all practising artists, designers or theorists, will continue to be of central importance to producing industry-ready graduates and a wealth of extremely high quality work."
The creative energy of Gray's students means that they are continually pushing the boundaries and visitors to the Degree Show will see the integration and extensive use of digital-media, photography, animation, time-based and interactive media integrated and co-existing with more traditional processes.
BP's continued support of the Show emphasises the very important synergy that exists between art, design and industry, and the world beyond art school. This underlines Gray's School of Art's ambition to be the Professional Art School.
Tim Smith, Vice President Communications & External Affairs, BP Scotland, said: "BP is delighted to continue our support of Gray's Degree Show to help showcase new talent and to reinforce the growing reputation for excellence in the arts in the North-east of Scotland."
Libby Curtis added, "We are very grateful to BP for their continued support of the Degree Show. Their involvement provides an added dimension to the Show and gives great encouragement to the School's 125th graduating cohort of talent."
Gray's School of Art Degree Show 2010, sponsored by BP, will be launched on Friday 18 June. The show will then be open to the public from 19 to 26 June (10-5pm throughout the weekend and from 10-8pm on weekdays).

Note to editor:
There will be an opportunity to interview and photograph students modelling some stunning garments that were created with the BP brand in mind by fashion students for last year's opening night. Striking statement pieces, these have not yet been subject to media attention and a similar project is underway for this year's launch. Libby Curtis and Wendy Smith, Community Affairs and Events Manager from BP, will join the students tomorrow (Wednesday 28 April) at 11.45am in the main foyer to strut their stuff.
Members of the media should meet Katy Jones on arrival to the main reception at Gray's School of Art.
