Federica achieves career success throughout her five years at RGU

Federica Monacelli ends her five year journey with Robert Gordon University (RGU) on a high as she graduates with an MSc in International Marketing Management with Distinction at The Music Hall on Monday 8th December.

The 24-year-old, who lives in Newmachar, realised she had a genuine interest in PR, marketing and branding during her BA (Hons) in Fashion Management, which she also studied and graduated from at RGU.

After graduating she had a desire to experience the business-to-business corporate communications arena so decided to venture on a postgrad in International Marketing Management.

Federica, who was born in Italy, said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the Fashion Management course and of course, the trips to fashion shows in Birmingham and London but also the work experiences I was able to secure at leading retailer John Lewis and Italian fashion house Harmont and Blaine.

"Although my degree was fashion-related, I had a desire to also experience the business-to-business corporate communications arena. At that point, I started to apply for numerous internships in services and energy firms in Aberdeen. Just when I thought no one was going to get back to me, leading global professional services organisation activpayroll, based in Cults, took me on for a summer work placement in their global PR and Marketing team.

"Following an insightful and successful internship, and as I had just started my MSc in International Marketing Management at RGU, I was offered to continue working part-time at activpayroll as PR and Marketing Assistant while I completed my studies.

"Without any hesitation I grabbed this opportunity with both hands knowing it was going to be hard work but appreciating that not every student gets to learn the theory and then see its application in a global brand's marketing efforts.

"Over the months, I got very attached to the activpayroll brand and focussed a lot of my efforts on the firm's online presence and press relations and began to really feel in-synch with the team. I was promoted earlier this year to PR and Marketing Executive leading the firm's PR and Marketing activities – all of this while undertaking my MSc full-time."

It's not surprising that Federica decided to focus her dissertation on activpayroll undertaking an analysis of the firm's branding efforts from the perspective of internal and external key stakeholders.

Federica has been offered to remain in her role permanently and has just recently returned from a London business trip which saw her team win an award at the Payroll World Awards.

She concluded: "I've been really looking forward to my Graduation and would like to dedicate everything I have achieved so far to the sacrifices my family has made over the years. My heartfelt thanks also go to CEO Alison Sellar and the entire activpayroll team for the trust, recognition and endless opportunities to grow professionally."
