Members of RGU’s radiography team received a £3,000 donation recently in memory of a former student who fought courageously against cancer during her studies at the university.
Student Susan Beadie sadly passed away in 2011 aged 36, following a long battle with the disease during which she dedicated herself to finishing her radiography course.
Throughout her illness, the support of the radiography team was crucial in enabling Susan to continue with her studies whilst undergoing treatment.
Wishing to recognise that support, Susan’s husband Scott and her best friend Gill Main undertook a series of fundraising activities to make a donation to assist student radiographers who may be experiencing hardship.
Their efforts were supplemented by additional personal donations by Scott and Susan’s parents, Connon and Georgea Wyness, who paid a visit to the radiography team in the School of Health Sciences, on Wednesday, May 22 to present the team with a £3,000 donation.
Lesley Leishman, course leader for the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography course said: “Susan showed great determination to try and finish her course despite the effects of her illness. The team were deeply moved to receive this substantial donation in recognition of the support provided to her and it will be used to provide support to student radiographers currently studying at the university.”
