Champion designers gear up for Gray’s Degree Show 2010
Monday, 07 June, 2010
Two final year Graphic Design students at Robert Gordon University are preparing for Gray's Degree Show 2010, sponsored by BP, having been recognised as Champions of Marketing Excellence. The duo both picked up Silver Star Awards at the recent Marketing Society of Scotland annual awards ceremony.
David Crombie (24), from Wormit in Fife, and David Howie (22), from Crossgates, also in Fife, received the honour in recognition of their work in developing ideas around the theme of reducing the carbon footprint caused by the 2014 Commonwealth Games. David Howie looked at transportation and designed a campaign to encourage people to get on the train to the Games, while David Crombie's idea is to invite those attending the Games to represent their country in a competition to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the event.
David Crombie said: "Attending the awards ceremony was a great experience - it was like the who's who of marketing in Scotland and I felt very proud to be in such distinguished company. I am extremely pleased to receive the award and I am really looking forward to the Degree Show. It's not long till the 18th!"
David Howie added: "I am really chuffed to have been recognised in this way because it is a very prestigious award and the whole exercise has been a brilliant experience."
Three students of Aberdeen Business
School were also
recognised in the awards, in their case for the Star Marketing Student
category. They were asked to submit a proposal about how the Scottish Ballet
might attract more people to its events.
Heather Anderson (21), from Edinburgh,
won a gold award for her suggestions, which included using marketing e-cards
and iphone applications to raise awareness of the company. Kerrie Tindall, from
Portlethen, and Leanne Donaldson, from Aboyne, both picked up silver awards in
this category.
The Star Awards are aimed at celebrating the most dynamic marketing campaigns in Scotland. Jo Coomber, Chair of the Marketing Society Scotland Star Awards 2010, said: "The Star Awards are all about recognising the shining examples that bring together creativity, and innovation to deliver impact and results. The standard and diversity of our winners reflects the talent and flair that exists with the industry in Scotland, and celebrates the central role marketing plays within business and the community."
