Architecture students’ work to be highlighted at End of Year Show

The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment will formally open its End of Year Show 2011 next week with an award ceremony to recognise the achievements of its top students.

SSS End of Year Show 2010At the Show’s opening on Wednesday 15 June, selected students from across the School will receive prizes from the university and prestigious industry organisations in recognition of their outstanding work. The event takes place at the School on the university’s Garthdee campus at 5.30pm.

Awards to be presented in front of an invited audience include the Aberdeen Civic Medal sponsored by Aberdeen City Council for many decades, prizes for surveying graduates sponsored by industry journals ‘Building’ and ‘Property Week’, and a number of awards generously sponsored by local industry.

The ceremony will launch the End of Year exhibition which will open to the public the next day and run until the end of the month. On the night - and thereafter - designs, sketches and intricate models will be on display throughout the school, as created by students from Architecture, Architectural Technology, Surveying, and Construction Design and Management disciplines.

Head of School, Dr David McClean commented:
“The End of Year Show is an important celebration of the work of the School, and amply displays the commitment, imagination and dedication of our students and staff.

“It provides an excellent demonstration of the broad range of professional skills developed by our students through diverse projects, many of which relate to our local community. Despite the impact of the economic downturn on the construction industry at this point in time, the design and realisation of buildings, towns and cities of the highest quality endures as a fundamental social need.

“Consequently, we believe there is much on display that will be of interest to the public, and welcome all those interested to the Show.”

Taking place at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment on Garthdee Road, Aberdeen, the End of Year Show will be open to the public from Thursday 16 June to Thursday 30 June inclusive, Monday to Saturday 9.00am – 6.00pm and Sunday 11.00-5.00pm.
