Professional Nursing Studies: RCN Approved Nurse Practitioner Route BA

1. Overview

This course provides a professional development framework, allowing nurses to undertake clinically focused modules with the potential to achieve a degree. This course is currently under development, please contact Pamela Kirkpatrick, course leader on 01224 262957 for further information.

Each module (except Advanced Professional Practice) is also offered as a stand alone short course. Six modules are core modules and students may choose one additional module from the Professional Development Portfolio in order to achieve the full degree award. The structure of the course offers a part-time, flexible mode of education for registered nurses enabling them to study and continue in employment. It is anticipated that students will take approximately six months to complete each module.

The development of the course has been led by the requirements of the nursing profession for practitioners who are fit for practice. The course has been strongly influenced by the need to make education clinically relevant and the emphasis of the course is on the application of theory to practice and the process of learning. The programme has been developed to meet the needs of a wide range of staff, and all modules within the programme have been developed in collaboration with clinical staff.
