English Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction at Robert Gordon University and all students must demonstrate that they’re proficient in reading, writing, speaking and listening before starting a course with us.

All applicants whose first language is not from a recognised English speaking country will be asked to provide evidence of their English language skills as part of their offer to study at RGU.

Visa Requirements and Proof of English Language

It is a visa requirement to provide information on your level of English based on an UKVI recognised test or where the university has assessed your English language qualification as equivalent to CEFR B2 in all 4 components of reading , writing, speaking and listening. The qualifications listed on this page have been assessed as being the equivalent to CEFR B2 and are acceptable as proof of English language proficiency.

Undergraduate courses normally require an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all 4 components.  Some of our courses require a different level of English. Please check our course pages for specific details. Test reports are valid for a period of 2 years and can be used as proof of English for admission if valid on the start date of your course.

Summer Pre-sessional English Programme

If you do not have the required level of English to start your degree course at the University, you may wish to apply for our intensive English Language Pre-sessional Programme. The Pre-sessional Programme aims to increase your English Language level before you start studying for your degree course.
