Vice-Chancellor's Undergraduate Scholarship

  • One full year’s tuition fee for one year of study
  • For students starting in Year 1 or Year 2 of an undergraduate course

Eligibility Criteria

  • Selection of successful awardee is based on academic merit
  • Holder of an offer from Robert Gordon University for a full time on campus undergraduate course
  • Be classed by the University as an international fee payer for tuition fee payment
  • Must be a self-funding student

How to Apply and Deadlines

  • Have received an offer from Robert Gordon University for an undergraduate course
  • Applicants must then submit a scholarship application form, including a 500 words statement of support. The Scholarship Panel would expect applicants to highlight why they should be considered for the award.

External Scholarships

Robert Gordon University welcomes international students who are funded or sponsored by various sponsoring governments, ministries and other organisations. If you are seeking financial assistance to study in the UK, you may wish to discuss this with the Ministry of Education in your home country, who may be able to advise you on your own government’s support programmes for study overseas.

The British Council in your country will also be able to advise you of any other UK scholarship programmes for which you may be eligible.

The following are some country specific sources of funding:

Azerbaijan

The SOCAR scholarship programme is an initiative of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic to generously fund Azeri students to study abroad at top universities.

Both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Engineering are funded at the discretion of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic).

The SOCAR scholarship and training department in Baku manages the programme on behalf of the company.

Canada

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)

OSAP is a mix of grants and loans for students to help pay for a college or university education. 

The OSAP offers two kinds of money:

  • grants: money you don’t have to pay back
  • a student loan you need to repay

Both the Ontario government and federal government provide this money.

All you need to do is fill out the online or paper application for a full-time or part-time student. OSAP will automatically consider you for the following loan and grant programs.

GREAT Scholarship

The British Council offers several scholarships of £10,000 each to Indian students for Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in the areas of Architecture, Engineering, Computing and Pharmacy/Life Sciences.

Kazakhstan

The Bolashak scholarship programme is an initiative of the Kazakh Government to generously fund hundreds of bright young Kazakhs to study abroad at top universities.

Both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in priority subjects are funded at the discretion of the Government.

The Centre for International Programmes (CIP) in Astana manages the programme on behalf of the Ministry of Science and Education.

Robert Gordon University is pleased to welcome several Bolashak scholars to Aberdeen each year. You may apply through the Centre for International Programmes in one of two ways: you may either ask the CIP to locate a university place for you, or you may obtain an offer of admission to a university and then apply for the Bolashak funding. Our students tend to choose the second option, as this can speed up the process of obtaining a scholarship.

Mexico

CONACyT and Secretariat of Energy in Mexico (SENER)

In early 2016 RGU signed an agreement with CONACyT-SENER and is now one of just 25 recognised institutions endorsed by CONACyT-SENER for energy-related scholarships in the UK.

Namibia

Petroleum Training and Education Fund

The Petroleum Training and Education Fund (PETROFUND) was formed in 1993 in order to offer training in fields of science and information technology through scholarships and support education institution building. The objectives of the Petrofund are as follows:

  • Provide bursaries for tertiary studies in the fields of engineering, science and technology to pave the way for Namibians to fill employment positions currently filled by non-Namibians
  • Foster awareness of and promote knowledge of natural sciences, mathematics, engineering and technology and other oil and gas related fields over a broad spectrum of population by exposing them to selected promotional activities in the relevant fields
  • Enhance education and training in natural science, mathematics, engineering and technology in Namibia by improving the quality of teaching staff in these subjects at secondary school.

Chevening Scholarship

Robert Gordon University is proud of its association with Chevening and welcoming Chevening scholars every year to its campus.

Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders and influencers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. Awards are typically for a one year Master’s degree and cover tuition fees and a contribution towards living costs.

To be eligible for a Chevening Award you must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended
  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK.
  • Have at least two years’ work experience (this may be up to five years for fellowship programmes, so please refer to your country page for further details)
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 12 July 2018
  • Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 12 July 2018

Commonwealth Scholarship Commission

The role of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) is to offer opportunities to Commonwealth citizens to study in the UK and to identify UK citizens to study overseas. They administer seven types of award and support around 700 awards annually to students coming to study all over the UK. The scholarship covers a full fee waiver for postgraduate masters and postgraduate research programmes.

Terms and Conditions

  • University scholarship, financial award and discount will be awarded upon enrolment at the University. Part-time students will have the financial award and discount applied pro-rata
  • The Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship cannot be combined with any other award, scholarship or discount
  • Discounts will be awarded at the discretion of the University
  • The most beneficial individual award for each student, the higher of the sum of the financial award, scholarship or discount, will be applied. Only one award can be held per offer
