The new Library tower, the striking green glass landmark at the heart of the new campus, opened at the end of May 2013.
There are 4 floors of books and journals in the new library and each floor has a Faculty focus:
- Level 6 - Aberdeen Business School
- Level 7 - Health and Social Care
- Level 8 - Design & Technology - art and architecture
- Level 9 - Design & Technology - engineering and computing
We’ve consulted with academic staff and student representatives to arrive at a very user friendly layout. The most frequently borrowed books are in open shelving and the lesser used are stored in moveable compact shelving.
A receptionist welcomes you into the library and staff will also be available at touch down points on the subject floors to help out with any enquiries. Subject staff offer drop in sessions on database searching, referencing, Refworks and anything else you need help with.
The Library Tower is equipped with over 250 workstations, multi function devices for printing, photocopying and scanning, WiFi and desktop power for charging personal devices. There are also new self service kiosks where, as well as borrowing and renewing books, you can check your account and pay any fines. There is an automated sorter where you can return your books.
The main emphasis in the new library is on individual quiet study but there is plenty space for group work in the new Learning Café.
