Susan Craw Professorial Lecture

Delivered by Susan Craw, Director of the Institute for Innovation, Design and Sustainability Research (IDEAS)

The Web is a fast growing source of information. Business routinely generates and stores increasing amounts of information as data and text.

Professor Craw will be discussing how can we exploit these vast sources of information to guide choices, make decisions and solve problems intelligently?

When awarded her professorship in 1998, Susan was only the second female Computing professor in Scotland. Since then she has been Head of the School of Computing, Head of Research for the Faculty of Design & Technology, and is now Director of the IDEAS Research Institute. Her Artificial Intelligence research interests include case-based reasoning, text mining, knowledge discovery, and automated tools for knowledge acquisition, refinement and management. Her research is highly relevant to the oil & gas, space and pharmaceutical industries, and has societal impact through healthcare and social media applications.

The talk will begin at 6.15 prompt and will be followed by an opportunity for questions. The evening will conclude with light refreshments.
