As official partners of the City of Aberdeen Baker Hughes 10K, RGU: SPORT will be offering Baker Hughes 10K runners the chance to come along to our expert seminars and receive discount vouchers for The Running Shop in the Rosemount area of Aberdeen.

The seminars are ideal for beginner runners or people who would like more information on how to run a 10K successfully.  Information packs will also be distributed at the end of each seminar, which will include the discount vouchers for the running shop.

Speaker Biographies

Mel Edwards

  • Been running for over 50 years;

  • Logged over 100,000 miles;

  • Former Scottish Marathon and Cross Country International;

  • Personal bests of 29.30 for 10K and 2.18 for marathon;

  • Missed Olympic selection for marathon in 1968 by 2 places;

  • UK Athletics Level 4 Endurance Coach;

  • Still running 5-6 days per week;

  • I look forward to seeing you all on 03 February and 01 March.

Dr Eimear Dolan

  • Currently employed as a lecturer & researcher in the School of Health Sciences at RGU;

  • Module leader for Human and Sports Nutrition;

  • Completed her PhD in Applied Exercise Physiology & Nutrition, which specifically examined the health and performance implications of “making weight” in horse-racing jockeys;

  • Theoretical interests mainly reside in Sports Nutrition; more specifically ‘hydration’, ‘energy balance’ and ‘the interactions between energy and bone regulation’;

  • Additionaly, Eimear has extensive experience in working with a range of elite athletes to help them to achieve their nutritional and training goals.

Nicholas Summersgill

  • Nick initially trained as a Remedial Gymnast at Pinderfields College qualifying in 1983 and became a Physiotherapist on amalgamation of the professions in 1985;
  • Has worked extensively in the public and private sector as a clinician, manager and teacher;
  • Nick taught at RGU from 1990-1997 before moving onto a career in professional sport and private practice;
  • Primary interests are musculo-skeletal medicine, rehabilitation and ergonomics.

Gillian Duncan

  • Been an HPC registered Podiatrist for 15 years working in both the public and private sectors;
  • Main interest and experience lies in the sports medicine field having carried out postgraduate work in sports biomechanics at RGU and running a successful private practice at Run-4-It in Aberdeen;
  • Now currently working as part of PACE at RGU where I offer gait and footwear analysis, treatment of lower limb injuries, foot and nail problems and general health advice.
