1. Overview

BSc (Eng) Electronic and Electrical Engineering

This part-time engineering course is aimed at students who have the potential and motivation to become competent professional engineers but are unable to commit to full-time study.

You will be provided with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently develop, manage, operate and maintain complex engineering processes and systems.

The course is offered on a part-time evening class basis at years 2 and 3 only and is specifically designed for entrants with an HNC or HND in the appropriate discipline.  

2. What you will study

Each stage of the course is split into ‘a' and ‘b' sections which are delivered in alternate years, therefore, each stage takes two years to complete. You will attend classes two evenings per week and benefit from small practical classes and tutorial groups led by staff with experience in both industry and the academic environment.

STAGE 2

Semester 1:

Section ‘a'

  • Electronics 2
  • Quantitative Methods 2

Section'b'

  • Microprocessors and Microcontrollers
  • Design Exercise

Semester 2:

Section ‘a'

  • Introduction to Computer Engineering
  • Electrical Power

Section'b'

  • Introduction to Telecommunications
  • Applied Management

STAGE 3

Comprises a project and 3 elective modules

Semester 1:

Section ‘a'

  • Electrical Systems
  • Project Management, Teamworking and Leadership

Section'b'

Plus any 2 modules from:

  • Signal Acquisition, Instrumentation & Control
  • Analogue and Digital Communications
  • Electrical Machines and Drives 1

Semester 2:

Section ‘a'

  • Integrative Engineering Project Plus 1 or 2 modules from:
  • Electronics 3
  • Computer Architecture

Section'b'

  • Integrative Engineering Project Plus 1 or 2 modules from:
  • Electrical Power and Energy Systems
  • Data Networks
  •  

3. Entry requirements

An appropriate HNC or equivalent. Consideration will also be given to candidates with relevant work experience. Direct Entry to Stage 3 is possible for students with an HND in Electronics from Banff and Buchan College, and may be possible for students with an equivalent qualification from other institutions.

4. Course Fees

For Academic Year 2012/2013

  • £912 per academic year

Rest of UK Students

  • £3,375 per academic year

International Students

  • £5,125 per academic year

For Academic Year 2011/2012

UK/EU Students

  • £912 per academic year

International Students

  • £5,000 per academic year
