Biography
Professor Iain Richardson founded the Centre for Video Communications at RGU and is Director of Vcodex Limited. He is internationally known as the author of "H.264 and MPEG-4 Video Compression", a widely cited work in the research literature. He advised the Chairman and Vice President of Qualcomm Inc. on video compression issues in 2007 and was the lead expert witness in an international patent case related to video compression technology. He has written three further books and over 50 journal and conference papers on video communication topics. He has recently given invited talks at the IEEE System on Chip Conference, Rochester Institute of Technology, Kodak Research Labs, Google Inc, INRIA and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Recent funding awards include an EPSRC grant to develop fast video coding algorithms, two Scottish Enterprise/Proof of Concept awards to develop a prototype low-complexity video codec, a Proof of Concept award to research perceptual prioritization of coded video and a DTI/KTP award to develop communications signal processing for the offshore industry.
