Antony spent time exploring for gold in Botswana and coal in Spitsbergen before spending almost a quarter of a century as an academic at the University of Aberystwyth. He left the university when it decided to cease teaching geology.
He is a discipline leader in the RGU Oil & Gas Centre. In the past he has run training programmes for companies such as Shell in Nigeria and currently runs short courses for corporate clients such as Tullow Oil and BG group in east Africa. With his background in geology, he has research interests in the causes and effects of sea-level changes.
Outside work he still tries to play hockey, both at club level and as a member of the Wales over-60s team.
