Role and Responsibilities
Alex Mackay is a lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance and Course Leader for MSc Accounting & Finance. He was previously course leader for the Master in Business Administration (MBA) programme, which is fully accredited by AMBA and is recognised internationally.
Background and Interests
After graduating from Aberdeen University in 1977 with a First Class Honours Degree in Economic History, Alex was employed as graduate accountant with what is now Ernst & Young in London, Glasgow and Amsterdam. Later he moved to hold a series of posts in the UK public sector, mainly finance and management related. Periods were spent at Scottish Health Boards, including Highland, Dumfries and Galloway, Lanarkshire and Grampian. He has also worked for a short time in the Court Office of Glasgow University.
Prior to joining the Aberdeen Business School in 1993 he worked in the public sector review arm of KPMG. During this period he obtained his chartered status with CIPFA and also graduated, with distinction, MBA from Glasgow University.
