Key Duties and Responsibilities
Stuart is an industrial associate/associate researcher within the IDEAS Research Institute as the director of Creative Frontline - www.creativefrontline.com - his company specialising in creativity, design and innovation.
Stuart was Head of Gray’s School of Art (2006-2009): Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the University of Strathclyde (2010 -2011); and member of the Humanities Panel of the European Science Foundation (2012 - 2013). He is currently a PhD supervisor at the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn.
Research Interests / Professional Background
Stuart’s research and consultancy is centred on the creative economy and the desegregation of art, design, environment and education. He is concerned with the social, economic and cultural impacts and policies that affect the above relationship and the development of new, cross-cutting business models for the Creative and Cultural Industries that enable artists and designers to widen their engagement, particularly through exhibitions, curatorship and new educational practices.

Recent projects and clients include: Architecture and Design Scotland (A&DS), the British Council, Community Learning Development Standards Council for Scotland, Creative City Challenge (pilot project European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009), Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (IRISS), Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and the University of Strathclyde. Stuart is currently a member of the British Council Creative Economy Unit Pool of Experts.
