Lyndsey's practice is rooted in the tradition of still life painting, in which she explore objects in relation to movement and stillness through both the two-dimensionality of painting and the physicality of sculpture. With this, she explores surface in relation to the object and flatness in relation to its form. Within the process of painting, she hopes to exaggerate the limits of the medium, extending it out of the pictorial and into ‘real’ space.
Within this, she is interested in the notion of touch and how we, (humans and animals alike) develop relationships with objects and gain an understanding of their form and purpose. The focus is on the correlation between light and dark in the opacity and reflectivity of pigments and surfaces, as a means of questioning our ability to perceive and respond to Visual Agnosia (the impairment in recognition of visually presented objects.)
