Janine qualified as a social worker in 1989. She worked in group care in the Bronx, New York before moving to work in child care, child protection in Moss Side in Manchester. Janine was employed for more than 9 years as Assistant Principal in a therapeutic residential special school in the Highlands before taking up a lecturing post at Robert Gordon University under a partnership arrangement with the Centre for Looked After Children in Scotland (CELCIS). She later became Course Leader for the BA(Hons) Social Work (Residential Child Care) by distance learning and is now Head of Social Work.
Although Janine teaches across the social work qualifying course her specific interests are around children and young people in relation to: poverty and social exclusion, education, therapeutic practice and all aspects of group care.
