Computing for Graphics and Animation BSc (Hons)

1. Overview

The rapid evolution of sophisticated computer technologies that provide interactive graphics and animation is changing the faces of the computing, communications and entertainment industries.

This course will enable you to develop expertise in designing and implementing graphics systems which take into account the requirements of organisations and their users, incorporating multimedia and delivering well-designed, usable interfaces.

The technical content of the course is balanced by coverage of design principles and perception and visualisation. This ensures that your creative imagery takes on an aesthetically pleasing form and achieves a high degree of visual impact.

3. Entry requirements

SQA Higher: BBCC/BBB (or equivalent) and 2 further passes (normally to include Maths and English) at Standard Grade.

GCE A Level: BB/CCC (or equivalent e.g. AC) and 3 further passes (normally to include Maths and English) at GCSE.

Irish Leaving Certificate Higher: B2B2C1C1/B2B2B2 (or equivalent) and 2 further passes (normally to include Maths and English) at Ordinary Level.

IB Diploma 26, including a pass in Standard Level Maths.

Alternative Qualifications Equivalent qualifications, e.g. SQA, BTEC, S/NVQs, overseas qualifications and access programmes will be considered on an individual basis. Applications from students with non-standard qualifications or work experience are welcomed.

Advanced Entry The School of Computing welcomes applications from students with relevant HN qualifications or similar diplomas for consideration for advanced entry to selected courses. Overseas applicants with appropriate diplomas/advanced diplomas are also welcome to apply for advanced entry to selected courses.

4. Placements and accreditations

Placement 

An optional 16-week paid placement during the summer between years 2 and 3 will give you an insight into the real-world applications of computing. It is proven that by taking up this opportunity, you will have a definite advantage in the job market when it comes to applying for graduate positions.

Accreditation

This course is accredited by the British Computer Society. Upon successful graduation, you can apply for membership of the Society, providing valuable additional professional recognition.

5. Student Funding

If you are a Scottish resident or EU national you are not liable to pay fees and should apply to SAAS for funding.
