Caroline Sinclair - hats are back!
Gray's graduate Caroline Sinclair (26) is an award winning Scottish milliner whose designs have been widely acclaimed. Caroline graduated in 2004 from Gray's and then studied at Cardonald College in Glasgow obtaining a City and Guild in Millinery. In 2004, her work was exhibited at the New Designers Exhibition in London.
Just one year later she showed her exquisite work at the Clothes Show Hat Competition in Birmingham.
Working from her studio in the heart of Aberdeen, she designs and creates stunning bespoke handcrafted hats and head pieces.
"Everyone that has been to the studio has been really enthusiastic. People quite often start small with a head piece, and then as their confidence grows the hats get bigger. It's an exciting time to be in this industry; hats are back in fashion and can really complete an outfit.
"I love doing my own thing, and starting my own business has been a real learning curve. As well as being a milliner, I have also had to develop my business skills. I realise that I can't just sit back and let my hats do the selling; I've had to get a website up and running, promotional literature created, attend networking events and wedding exhibitions - it's been a challenging but very rewarding experience."
Caroline has designed hats for weddings, Ascot and the Grand National. Prices start from around £40 for a fascinator going up to approx. £300 for a hat from the top end of her range. Caroline's work has appeared on the Catwalk at "Hatwalk 2006", where she was singled out by industry professionals as "an up and coming Scottish Milliner". More recently she was 3rd in the Hat Designer of the Year Awards in Paris in 2008.
Caroline is offering RGU graduates a 10% discount off her hats. To make use of this discount please email alumni@rgu.ac.uk asking for a Caroline Sinclair discount voucher.
