Aberdeen Business School graduate, Philippe Wehmeyer (40), was appointed Managing Director (MD) of GAME Group France at the age of 34. In his six years as MD he has been instrumental in growing the group brand in France hugely increasing their number of stores and turnover."

Philippe WehmeyerFrom very early on I knew I wanted to manage a company, but just didn't know what. I was very tempted to stay in the UK but having studied in Aberdeen and fine tuned my English skills it made sense to work for a French company and utilise these.

"After graduation I was drafted into the army but was fortunate enough to secure a civil service opportunity working for beverage company Heritier R. Cointreau based in Madrid as an alternative form of National Service. This was great experience since it gave me the opportunity to speak Spanish, a fourth European language after French, Italian and English.

"I then built up a portfolio of operational and export experience in the retail sector working for leading fashion group Zannier followed by major clothing group Caroll Paris. I later began working with Morgan Fashion in France as Operations Director and after three months I was promoted to Managing Director.

"Today working at GAME France it is my job to make the company more competitive, and just as importantly maintain this. Over the past six years the number of stores in France has increased from 56 to 200 stores and their turnover by 450%. The sector is constantly evolving and we need to be one step ahead all the time. The French online market is very advanced and we are currently concentrating on how we can develop our presence on that front after developing our Brick and Mortar operations over the last few years."
