Our Management with Marketing degree puts the consumer at the heart of everything we teach.

Not only will you understand the theoretical aspects of Marketing but you will get plenty of opportunity to put this into practice. Spend a year on paid work placement or undertake projects with a number of different organisations. You can also spend time studying overseas at one of our 150 partner institutions worldwide. Overview

Year 1

You will be introduced to the key business functions of Marketing, Finance, Accounting and Human Resource Management in Year 1. Through studying a range of modules you will develop the intellectual and practical skills you will need through your degree.

Year 2

In this year, you can choose whether to continue studying at RGU or spend either Semester 1 or 2 studying abroad. Modules studied in this year build on the foundation business functions learned in Year 1 and contain a number of Marketing specific modules.

Year 3

In this year you have three options, a placement route, a taught route at RGU, or the ‘Connect to Business’ route. This offers you flexibility to tailor your study to your own interests and career aspirations.

Year 4

Year 4 is the pinnacle of your course. As a Management with Marketing student, you will study advanced business modules in Global Leadership, Innovation and Business Strategy as well as more specialised Marketing related modules covering Consumer Psychology and International Branding. You will also undertake a significant piece of independent marketing research in the form of a thesis.

  • You will study four modules per semester. It is typical that a quarter of your time will be spent learning in large groups and three quarters of your time you will be taught in a small group tutorial environment.

    Study Abroad

    Our study abroad destinations include Europe, Asia, USA, and Canada. All students on the Management Programme have the opportunity to study abroad for one Semester of Year 2 or both Semesters of Year 3. If you have a real taste for travel, you can study abroad in Year 2 and undertake a placement abroad in Year 3. If you choose to study abroad, you’ll be taught and assessed in English, but will have the opportunity to learn the local language where applicable.

    In addition to lectures and tutorials, you will spend approximately 20 hours per week outside of the class working on your own. This involves undertaking prescribed reading, preparing for tutorial assignments, team meetings and researching and writing course reports.

    Staff delivering this course

    Our staff have either achieved Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or are working towards this. This is a professional recognition of lecturer practice, impact and leadership in teaching and learning.

    In addition many of our staff feature in the annual Support and Teaching staff with Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) awards voted by the students and organised by RGU:Union.

    Academic staff who teach on the Management with Marketing modules have worked in a range of professional backgrounds. They are ‘business-connected’ and use professional networks and their academic research to ensure teaching is professionally relevant and cutting edge.

    Alternative Qualifications: We welcome applications from those with equivalent qualifications to those stated, including SVQs/NVQs, access programmes and overseas qualifications. Applications from students with non-standard qualifications or work experience will be considered on an individual basis.

    Advanced Entry: Applicants who are interested in applying for advanced entry will be considered on an individual basis.

    Degree Link Programme:  A relevant HNC from one of our partner FE colleges may be considered for year 2 entry. A relevant HND from one of our partner FE colleges may be considered for year 3 entry. Students will follow the class-based taught route as an alternative to a placement in year 3.

    English Language

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.

    48 weeks optional paid placement (or 12 weeks unpaid on ‘Connect to Business’ route) is offered.

    The Placement Office team advertise opportunities and also work closely with employers through the selection process.

    For many students, the industrial placement in Year 3 is an exciting and challenging time and is the highlight of their course. It is an opportunity to consolidate and apply the learning you have gained in Years 1 and 2, and to acquire real world business experience that further develops essential professional skills and business acumen. During your placement you can expect to work in the UK or abroad and report to a Manager who will assess your performance on a regular basis. You also continue your academic learning by compiling a portfolio to provide evidence of your employability.

    As an alternative to placement, you can also choose one of the following options:

    • Stay at RGU for a third year of academic study, or
    • Study abroad for up to a year at one of our Partner Universities in Europe, North America or Asia on an approved course, or
    • Enrol in our innovative ‘Connect to Business’ route which offers the opportunity to gain work based experiences within a range of established enterprises, or starting your own.

    If you are a Scottish resident or EU national you are not liable to pay fees and should apply to SAAS for funding.
