Management Coaching and Mentoring

1. Overview

These qualifications are designed to support managers in the development of management coaching and mentoring skills, and to identify the links between coaching, mentoring and the achievement of business goals.

They are certified by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the only chartered professional body in the field of management and leadership.  Further information can be found on the CMI website.

You will be enrolled as members of the CMI, for the first year of your study which means you will be entitled to all the benefits of CMI membership including access to the CMI management resources. This is in addition to being registered as an RGU student with access to the university library and all student services.

2. What you will study

The programme leads to the CMI Level 5 Management Coaching and Mentoring (QCF)

Qualifications can be taken at Award, Certificate or Diploma all being at degree level.  You are able to choose from a selection of units to make up the Award, Certificate, or Diploma. You may have to choose from a combination of units depending on which qualification you wish to undertake. 

CMI Level 5 Award in Management Coaching and Mentoring (QCF)
You need to complete any combination of units to a minimum of 6 credits to achieve this qualification.

CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring (QCF)
You need to complete any combination of units to a minimum of 18 credits to achieve this qualification.

CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management Coaching and Mentoring (QCF)
You need to complete all units totalling 42 credits to achieve this qualification.

3. How you will learn

These qualifications are provided by online distance learning with the support of an academic tutor.

There are learning materials and guidance provided to support your portfolio building and provide you with underpinning knowledge and academic theory.

Assessment is through a knowledge and evidence based portfolio which you will develop from the enhanced knowledge and skills from the course (formal learning) together with the application in the workplace (experiential learning).  

These assessment criteria are set out in each of the units and your portfolio will consist of essay-style reports demonstrating you have met the criteria.

You will have full access to the university library and additionally you are able to access the resources of the CMI via the CMI website. As well as full access to RGU facilities and academic journals.

4. Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for this programme. However, we recommend that you have a fluent level of English and that you have the opportunity to coach and/or mentor as you need to keep a reflective log.

5. Placements and Accreditations

This programme is fully accredited by the Chartered Management Institute and supported by academic staff within Aberdeen Business School.
