The Masters in Financial Management has recently been revised to bring course content in line with the globally recognised investment credential, Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) qualifications.

This means that our graduates can be confident that they have gained a quality assured, industry standard qualification which is well recognised and respected in today’s financial management sector. New modules include: Alternative Investments and Portfolio Investment & Wealth Management.

The course will develop your analytical skills and teach you to evaluate theory and implement procedures within the corporate sector and financial institutions. It prepares you for roles in financial institutions, stock broking, investment and portfolio management, and in the business sector within the treasury and corporate finance departments of companies.

The MSc Financial Management is accredited by The Association of International Accountants (AIA).

You will learn to use various models and techniques for analysing the complex issues which arise during the business decision-making process. Communication, presentation, numeracy, IT and group interaction skills will also be enhanced.

Full-time Study
In full time mode, you will attend on-campus and learn through a combination of lectures, seminars and workshop sessions. These provide a mix of group study, discussion, simulation and presentations of findings by teams and individuals. You will work as an individual and also as part of a team teams on case studies, team activities, presentations and discussions. Access to our virtual learning environment, CampusMoodle, is also provided giving you access from home to learning materials (including videos, e-books and journals).

Part-time Study
Our part-time delivery mode combines aspects of distance learning and on-campus delivery. You will benefit from the support of the virtual learning environment but also face-to-face interaction with tutors and classmates.

Teaching and Expertise
Staff are drawn from a range of pure research and commercial business backgrounds. For example, several are members of UK Accounting Institutes and nationally recognised for their participation at senior level in bodies such as the Expert Review Group of CIMA. Research plays a vital role in underpinning all levels of teaching and the curriculum. Our students are made aware of the research being undertaken through access to published output and invitation to research seminars. Students have the opportunity to have their dissertation supervised by an active researcher.

The Aberdeen Business School has excellent industry links e.g. with Exxon Mobil and Aberdeen Asset Management. External specialist presenters in areas such Fund Management, Investment Banking and Treasury are regularly invited to speak to our students.

A good honours degree is required in a relevant subject. Applicants having a degree or degree equivalent qualification and relevant work experience at a suitable level within an organisation for an appropriate length of time may be considered, as may qualifications from an approved professional body.

All international students, for whom English is not their first language, must provide evidence of linguistic ability, by gaining either IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent in TOEFL prior to receiving an unconditional offer of a place on the course.

Merit Scholarship
Aberdeen Business School offers a number of merit scholarships to our outstanding students. The scholarship is available to 

• international students who will study the course by full time and distance learning and pay for the fees at the international rate; or
• UK or EU students who will study the course by full time and the fees are set in excess of 6,000 GBP; or
• UK or EU students who will study the course by distance learning.

Postgraduate Funding
Applicants (Scottish domiciled and EU) to this course may be eligible for a Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan (PTFL). Full-time students can apply for a PTFL up to £3400. Part-time students can apply for up to £1700. The tuition fee loan is only available to part-time students who are undertaking at least 50% of a full-time course, and therefore, complete their qualification in 2 years.
