MSc Strategic Accounting with CIMA

1. Overview

The MSc in Strategic Accounting (with CIMA) provides both an academic and a professional qualification awarded by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). A Top-up option is also available by distance learning.

The course has been designed to further develop accounting and non-technical skills and to study this Masters you will already hold the CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting.  For those students who already have already completed CIMA exams, we offer the opportunity to gain the MSc degree through the Top-up option.

3. How you will learn

Study through our Campus Moodle virtual learning environment (VLE) provides full open access to tutors and other class members. Students have the benefit of being part of a group of learners with the invaluable opportunity to participate in active, group-related learning within a supportive online community setting. The interactive online campus provides students with lectures and course materials and these include:

  • Virtual tutorials
  • Live chat
  • Discussion forums - student and tutor led
  • Up-to-date web technology for delivery methods
  • User friendly material

Once you have received an offer for the course, applicants are offered the chance to log into Campus Moodle for more information and to interact with staff and other applicants.

4. Entry requirements

Application for the course is open to those who already hold the CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting. In addition students should hold one of the following: 

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Relevant management level work experience.

Each application will be reviewed on an individual basis. Students who have successfully completed the BA Accounting (with CIMA Advanced Diploma) are eligible for entry and 10% alumni discount.

Candidates for whom English is not their first language must be able to demonstrate a suitable level in written and spoken English. This is demonstrated by the equivalent of an IELTS score of 6.5.

Top-up Option
The entry requirement for this top-up course is for applicants to be exam qualified through CIMA.

Students should also have either an undergraduate degree or three years of management level work experience.

5. Student Funding

Merit Scholarship

Aberdeen Business School offers a number of merit scholarships to our outstanding students. The scholarship is available to 

  • international students who will study the course by full time and distance learning and pay for the fees at the international rate; or
  • UK or EU students who study the course by full time and the fees are set in excess of 6,000 GBP; or
  • UK or EU students who will study the course by distance learning.

  • £4,200 for the Top-up option

  • £4,000 for the Top-up option

The MSc Strategic Accounting (with CIMA) enables students to study for two qualifications at the same time - thereby equipping graduates with a real  competitive advantage.

The profession is a highly regarded one, both in the UK and overseas - and both awards are very well known within the Industry. Opportunities for future careers exist within local, national and international companies in the areas of management accounting and financial accounting and also in commercial roles requiring financial analysis skills.
