MSc Quality Management

1. Overview

This part-time online course provides a broad practical knowledge in the field of quality management leading to a capability to apply the concepts in a work environment. It is suitable for professionals who wish to develop knowledge, understanding and business management skills in the fields of quality management and business improvement.

The course comprises a range of specialist subject areas in Quality Systems, Quality Improvement and Management Development.

  • Quality Systems: This covers systems that help organisations deliver products and services. It is a practical guide for managing, designing, implementing and assessing quality systems that aim to meet quality systems standards.
  • Quality Improvement: Looks at the tools and techniques that help organisations improve in all aspects of their product services and processes and provides a toolkit of improvement mechanisms for use in the work environment.
  • Management Development: Enables students to focus on a specialised and strategically important aspect of business. Students will be able to analyse risks at strategic and operational level and identify controls to eliminate, reduce or transfer such risks.

3. Entry requirements

Candidates should normally possess either a degree/Honours degree or degree-equivalent qualification in a relevant degree subject, awarded by a UK University or recognised Overseas Institution or qualifications of an approved Professional Body or Institution. Candidates with relevant industrial, commercial or professional experience at a level sufficient to justify exemption from the normal requirements may be considered.

In certain circumstances, students with ordinary degrees but with extensive appropriate work-experience within the sector can be admitted to a particular course at the discretion of the Course Leader and the Postgraduate Management Team.

All international students, for whom English is not their first language, must provide evidence of linguistic ability, by gaining either IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 570 (paper) or TOEFL 230 (computer) prior to receiving an unconditional offer of a place on the course.

4. Placements and accreditations

This Masters in Quality Management is accepted by the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) - formerly the Institute of Quality Assurance (IQA) - as part of the academic entry requirements for full CQI membership.
