Project Management Fundamentals 15 credits at SCQF 11
Module Short Name: Project Fundamentals
This module will help you understand the key principles, concepts and strategies of project management.
You will examine the broad project environment and apply project management tools and techniques to a real project.
2. What you will study
The module will provide a broad overview of the make-up of a project and the fundamental activities that take place in project management.
The project life cycle is introduced and the key activities within the sequential phases. The process of defining the project including setting objectives, determining scope, identifying stakeholders and clarifying strategies will also be evaluated. The increasingly critical role of project management within organisations shall be examined including the underpinning project management processes. The importance of project organisation (the people, the communication and resources) will be introduced, with an emphasis on the provision of adequate leadership, structures and feedback paths through and across the organisation.
3. How you will learn
You will learn through engaging with online learning materials, taking part in seminars & discussion forums and directed self study. You will also have regular contact with your tutor who will support you through the module.
All modules are credit rated and can be worth 5, 10, 15 or 30 credit points. This equates to the number of study hours required within the module, for example 50 hours for 5 credit points, 300 hours for 30 credit points. The SCQF modules can range from level 7 (undergraduate) through to level 11 (Masters) on the Scottish Credit Qualification Framework (SCQF). You can undertake individual modules or build them up to gain an exit award.
Find out more on progression and the framework on the SCQF website.
