Time to get our young artists creative!

Know a young artist who would love to join our programme? Gray's School of Art is delighted to reintroduce a series of Young Artist Workshops for 8-16 year olds.

Delivered over one 8 week semester, Young Artists will be able to take part on an exciting new programme in the visual arts, supported by two experienced professional Gray's School of Art members of staff.

2. What you will study

YES! We're back!

An exciting new opportunity to expand the minds and practical skills of young artists. This course will develop ability and build confidence in the personal creative expression - in a professional, safe, fun and inspiring environment. Our workshops will support young art enthusiasts to explore variety of subjects:

  • Drawing
  • Printmaking
  • Painting
  • Mixed Media
  • Sculpture
  • Jewellery
  • Ceramics
  • Sketchbooks

  • Learn new and exciting arts and crafts techniques.
  • Make group and individual projects.
  • Experiment with a range of different of materials.
  • Look at the work of artists past and present.
  • Connect and develop personal expression, interests and ability.
  • Explore traditional and contemporary principals of art practice in fun and supportive workshops.

All Young Artists will receive a sketchbook to develop their ideas in.

Please note: these classes will not take place in Gray’s School of Art itself but further down the RGU campus in the Sir Ian Wood Building. Parents/guardians of young artists must attend the first half an hour of our first class in order to complete our health and safety induction documents.

This course is perfect for 11-13 year olds.

RGU Registration

All students/parents should be aware that when registering as a student at RGU they are accepting a contract of enrolment. (In order to attend short courses all students must register and accept RGU's conditions).


Please inform Gray's School of Art if you are withdrawing your course. Any student absent for more than 4 weeks consecutively will be contacted by the school. Should no explanation of absence be given, RGU will withdraw you from the course.


A refund is only applicable where there has been at least 4 weeks illness and a medical certificate to support it.

5. Additional information

Young Artists please dress in clothes you can get messy in. We recommend our Young Artists bring a light snack and drink.

We'll provide all the materials required.

Parents will be informed of our complete health and safety induction information and be provided with a week by week breakdown of the class activity on commencement of the course.


Are you already a Short Course student yourself? Exclusively to support parents/guardians wishing to attend a Short Course of their own: please note that our Young Artists may be dropped off from 9:45am and collected by 12:45pm. Please notify the Short Course Team of your request and inform them of the Short Course you are attending.
