Systems Developer

As a Systems Developer, you will work within organisations to solve computer problems. This will be done through using existing systems, or using new technologies in order to meet the needs of the organisation. Daily tasks may include writing and testing code, fixing software faults or providing written documentation for users. You will also be involved in making recommendations for software development or operating systems.

Typical starting salary: £20,830 - £25,770

IT Consultant

IT Consultants work with clients and advise them on how to use information technology to best meet their business needs. You will work with clients to improve the efficiency of their organisation's IT system. As well as technical duties, you may be involved in business development activities, such as marketing and project management.

Typical starting salary: £23,000 - £32,000

Applications Developer

As an Applications Developer, you will translate software requirements into programming code, and will usually specialise in a specific area, such as computer games or e-commerce. There are a range of business sectors that you may work in and you will normally work as part of an IT team with other professionals. Day to day, you might be involved in establishing the program specification and evaluating the effectiveness of a program.
