Art & Design: Evening and Short Courses

Gray's short courses allow students the opportunity to undertake part-time study that can build a broad portfolio and gain experience prior to applying to full-time degree courses.

Courses can also be taken as stand-alone learning opportunities.

  1. Ceramics (Foundation)

    Ceramics (Foundation) is an evening course, giving an introduction to ceramic production and techniques.

  2. Ceramics (Intermediate)

    An evening course in ceramic technologies and production techniques. This course is for students having completed the Ceramics Foundation course or having equivalent experience.

  3. Creative Bookbinding

    The course offers an introduction to a variety of creative bookbinding techniques and equipment.

  4. Creative Imaging (Foundation) - Apple Macintosh

    Creative Imaging is an evening course for digital media and Photoshop techniques using Apple Macintosh (iMac OS X) computers and scanning software.

  5. Creative Photoshop - Apple Macintosh (Foundation)

    This course will introduce and familiarise students with an interest in Digital Photography to the use of Adobe Photoshop CS using Apple Macintosh (iMac OS X) computers and scanning software.

  6. Drawing (Foundation)

    The Drawing (Foundation) course is an introduction to drawing techniques.

  7. Drawing (Intermediate) - Mixed Media

    Drawing (Intermediate) - Mixed Media is an evening course for drawing and sketching techniques, ideal for portfolio building.

  8. Drawing - Development (Intermediate)

    This course introduces some exploratory and imaginative concepts to the drawing practice to encourage students to investigate how they draw what they see before them.

  9. Fashion (Foundation)

    This course is aimed at complete beginners to pattern-cutting and making.

  10. Fashion (Intermediate)

    This course is aimed at students with some previous pattern manipulation and sewing skills. Explore how to adapt bought patterns as well as pattern- cutting techniques from basic blocks, fabric manipulation and product construction suitable for development towards fashion outcomes.

  11. Figurative Study (Intermediate)

    Build on previous study, and further develop your personal practice of drawing the figure

  12. Figure Drawing (Foundation and Intermediate)

    This evening course focuses on the practice of observational drawing of human anatomy directly from a life model, antique casts and skeleton.

  13. Jewellery (Foundation)

    This course will introduce students to basic workshop practice and the use of traditional jewellery tools and equipment.

  14. Jewellery (Intermediate) - Wax Carving, Casting & Stone Setting

    Explore the properties of wax carving and cuttlefish, clay and lost wax casting through to the production of small-scale jewellery pieces.

  15. Jewellery/Silversmithing (Intermediate) - Colour & Form

    Students will have the opportunity to explore a number of metal forming techniques and colouring of metal.
