International Students and Working During Studies

If you are under Tier 4 visa rules this information applies to you.

Term-time - 20 hours a week maximum

You are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours a week during term-time if you are a Student/Tier 4 Student visa holder.

What is Term-Time?

If any of the following apply to you, you are considered as being in term-time and cannot work full-time:

  • You are doing any academic work or attending classes and/or lectures 
  • Preparing for exams/re-sits
  • Doing coursework
  • Writing essays or a dissertation/thesis/project

Even if there is a specified RGU vacation (such as summer/Christmas), you can only work up to 20 hrs a week if you are doing any of the above (reading week/s do not count as vacation time).
