Riverside East Alumni Tours

Monday 11 November

Evening Tour of DART® training facility (6:00pm)

A strategic alliance with international drilling and engineering contractor KCA Deutag has resulted in RGU becoming the proud owner of a DART® training facility, located in a new, bespoke complex within the university’s Energy Centre. RGU is the only university in the world to boast facilities of this type.

The training services provide a full-scale reproduction of an offshore fixed platform, land rig, semi-submersible, deep water vessels and jack-up rigs, complete with state-of-the-art touch screen consoles for both driller and assistant driller.

3D graphics of the rig’s drill floor and automated or remotely-controlled equipment are projected onto a 60ft long cinema screen at the front of the drilling control cabin. As the driller operates the rig floor equipment, the simulator depicts realistic and dynamic graphics and sounds to illustrate what the driller would see and hear on the rig.

RGU Energy Centre Manager, Duncan Stephen, will provide you with an informative tour and demonstration of the new facility will be happy to answer any questions you may have during the evening.

Saturday 16 November

Morning Tour of Riverside East (10:30am & 11:30am)

The Alumni Team would be delighted to tour you around the new state-of-the-are teaching facility at our Garthdee campus which contains the schools of engineering, computing, pharmacy and life sciences as well as its research institutes.

As part of the tour you will also get an opportunity to see the new library; a 33 metre circular tower providing a spectacular 360? panoramic view across the city and beyond (to the Cairngorms on a clear day).

Please note that the DART® training facility will not be included in the tour.
