    Overview of the Management with Economics Course

    This Management with Economics course which provides both a specialised education in economics and a thorough knowledge and understanding of the nature and context of business, the principal management functions and the skills required for effective management in different organisations.

    There are specified core modules at each stage, in addition to the economics modules, you will gain a firm foundation in the essential functional areas such as marketing, finance, human resources and management. You will also have the opportunity for some flexibility and individuality through your choice of option modules.

    You will be introduced to the basic principles of micro and macro economics in Stages 1 and 2 then you can choose specific applications of economics in the later stages of the course. The course integrates academic study and the development of business management skills in a friendly and student orientated environment.

    You will also develop competence in transferable skills and knowledge, e.g. in computing, communication, quantitative, analytical, presentation and groupwork, which employers identify as being essential for a business professional.

    If you choose the one year paid work placement you will get vocational training and gain insights into the application of economics in business or service organisations. It may also be possible to carry out your placement overseas.

    You will be able to tailor the course to your own interests through your choice of option modules. You will be able to select modules which cover the full range of subject areas offered in the Aberdeen Business School. You can pick a wide range of option subjects, or specialise according to your career aspirations.

    We have a number of European partner Business Schools which are of the highest standing in their respective countries. You can elect to participate in the Erasmus programme. You do not have to be proficient in a foreign language to take up this opportunity, as in most of these exchange programmes the modules are delivered in English.


    Scholarships and Prizes

    The KCA Deutag Business Scholarship provides a paid one year placement in Aberdeen for year three of the course. For the successful applicant, the scholarship then provides £2,500 and an excellent mentoring programme which runs throughout year four. The awardee is also considered for a place within the KCA Deutag Graduate Trainee Scheme.   

    The Petrofac Business Scholarship offers an award totalling £3,000. The scholarship offers the awardee £1,500 in both the second and fourth year of study. In addition successful candidates are offered a paid placement with Petrofac, either locally in Aberdeen or elsewhere.

    The Talisman Business Scholarship provides the eligible student with funding of £4000 each year for the first two years of the course, followed by £3000 grant in the final year of the course.

    Many companies submit prizes for our students, and this is a demonstration of the high regard that business employers have for our courses and graduates.
