RAE Ratings

The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) assesses the quality of research in UK universities. RAE outcomes are used to allocate university research funding.

Student working in a labIn RAE 2008 Robert Gordon University achieved outstanding results with over 70% of its research being classified as of international quality.

The University is the best modern* university in Scotland for research, adding to its existing accolade of best modern university in the UK (The Times - June 2008).

* A modern university is defined as one created post-1992.

World Class Research
The University has invested significantly in its research activities, dramatically increasing both the number and quality of researchers since the last RAE in 2001.

International Research at Robert Gordon University
Robert Gordon University submitted research to RAE 2008 in 11 different subject areas. Eight of these submissions were judged to have world leading research. Staff in all 11 categories undertook research which was internationally recognised and internationally excellent.

University Launches research institutes in 2009
To further develop the excellent research that was identified in RAE2008, Robert Gordon University launched three Research Institutes.
