Green Travel
About
The Green Travel Group, led by Judith Logan, Transport Manager, builds on sustainable travel initiatives progressed through the University's Green Travel Plan.
The group assesses the carbon footprint of the combined travel activities of the university and identifies specific areas for action to reduce carbon emissions.
Teleconferencing/Videoconferencing
Teleconferencing and Videoconferencing are excellent ways to save time, money and to avoid unnecessary travel.
Teleconferencing (a loudspeaker phone) is possible in all rooms. These phones can be borrowed from the technicians at Garthdee (ext 3559) or from Rod Strachan (ext 2068) at Schoolhill.
Videoconferencing is available at:
- H232, Faculty of Health & Social Care
- AB34, Admin Building, Schoolhill
- 608/609, Aberdeen Business School
Rooms can be booked in the first instance through the usual channel. You should then contact:
- Lynne Price in IT services for rooms H232 and AB34
- Colin Jamieson for room 608/609
The Technical Services Co-ordinators at each site can show you the facilities prior to setting up a call. They are:
- Colin Jamieson, Aberdeen Business School (ext 3560)
- Ian Mathieson, Faculty of health & Social Care (ext 2901)
- Bill Black, Admin Building, Schoolhill (ext 3342)
If you would like a technician to show you one of the rooms and guide you through the procedures please contact Christine Black, c.black@rgu.ac.uk.
Car Sharing
Car sharing can reduce congestion on the roads; reduce fuel consumption and the need for parking spaces at work places.
If you are interested in sharing your journey with others in your area the following links can help you:
Walking & Cycling
Walk-it
The Walk-it team are trying to encourage people to walk more by providing information on your potential journey, including the distance, a map of the best route to take and even the amount of calories they would expect you to lose.
Aberdeen Cycle Forum
The Aberdeen Cycle Forum is a voluntary group that can provide information on where you can get a bike and the best routes in and around the city.
Lockers have been introduced to all Garthdee buildings for cyclists and motorcyclists to store their helmets and other equipment. Contact Judith Logan for more information at transport@rgu.ac.uk.
Public Transport
There are a number of public transport options available to you:
- Both RGU campuses are well serviced by buses, most notably by numbers 1, 2 and 9 (RGU:Unilink). In Aberdeen the bus is often the quickest way to travel in the city centre. See the main RGU Transport page for more information.
- If you live outside Aberdeen you can take the train into Aberdeen City centre. The station is a ten minute walk to the City Centre Campus and a 15 minute bus journey to the Garthdee Campus.
- There are Park and Ride facilities available at Bridge of Don, Kingswells and Ellon. Using Park and Ride you don't have to find a parking space or drive in heavy traffic and could significantly reduce congestion.
