Centre for Understanding Sustainable Practice (CUSP)

The Centre for Understanding Sustainable Practice (CUSP) works with organisations and communities at many levels to establish sustainable and resilient societies.

We bring together a broad range of academic expertise in energy, engineering, business, architecture and social subjects, using education and capacity building as a key agent of change in promoting sustainable practice.

Research outputs are used in our University courses, our outreach projects and to disseminate information to business, education, local government and the public.

We work with governments, NGOs, businesses, academics, and indigenous communities and their leaders to empower and facilitate social transformation by linking energy, food, and water resources to people and their environment through policy intervention and business case presentation.

The centre combines the experience and expertise of its members of staff in the following interlinked and interdependent areas of sustainable development:

  • Engineering – technology
  • Environmental, social, economic impact assessment
  • Policy – strategy
  • Behaviour change
  • Architecture and Urban development

Our work is collaborative and participative, working with local and national level stakeholders and partners to conduct research, knowledge exchange and consultancy services across geographic, subject, and professional boundaries.
