Energy Sustainability

The aims of this group, led by Dr Alan Owen, is to consider how the University can not only reduce its carbon footprint through a reduction in energy consumption, but to look at how low carbon alternatives can best be utilised.

Wind turbinesThe group is involved with sustainability initiatives for the existing buildings and also feeds into relevant issues for the future new buildings which are part of the masterplan.

It has contributed to the creation of an energy-related carbon baseline assessment for the campus and this early work identified savings of £90,000 on energy bills.

Present work includes:

  • Numerical modelling of the university's energy profile
  • Monthly assessment of energy carbon footprint
  • Mapping of a new metering strategy.
