This document contains a range of information regarding extenuating circumstances, including what are/are not considered extenuating circumstances, what constitutes supporting evidence, and the possible outcomes of a claim/extension request. There are two forms associated with the Guiding Principles:
Coursework Extension Form (DOC 146KB)
This form should be used where you, the student have circumstances which are impacting on your ability to meet a coursework submission date and are seeking an extension to that submission date.
Extenuating Circumstances Claim Form (DOC 158KB)
This form should be used where you, the student, wishes to make the School/Department aware of circumstances which have impacted on your performance in an assessment or non-submission/non-attendance at an examination.
The University has introduced a Fit to Sit Policy: Extenuating Circumstances which will be implemented from the start of Session 2016/17. This Policy will replace the Extenuating Circumstances process, including the Extenuating Circumstances Claim Form. Details of the Fit to Sit Policy: Extenuating Circumstances and the associated forms are detailed below.

Deferral Request Form 2016-17 (DOC 131KB)
The Deferral Request Form should be used only if you are claiming extenuating circumstances in relation to non-submission of an assessment or non-attendance at an examination or if you became unwell during an examination.
Coursework Extension Form 2016-17 (DOC 132KB)
The Coursework Extension Form should be used when you have circumstances which are impacting on your ability to meet a coursework submission date, and you are seeking an extension to that submission date. If an extension to the submission date is approved, you will not be able to submit an Academic Appeal on the basis of the same extenuating circumstances.

From Session 2016/17 completed forms shall be submitted to Schools electronically using the School specific email addresses.
